Privacy Policy
Last updated: 1 October 2026
This policy explains what personal data the Ascend app and the ascendgym.online website collect, why we collect it, who helps us process it, and the rights you have. We’ve tried to write it plainly. If anything is unclear, email support@ascendgym.online.
1. Who we are
Ascend is operated by [LEGAL ENTITY NAME], [REGISTERED ADDRESS], Ireland (“Ascend”, “we”, “us”). We are the data controller for the personal data described here. Contact: support@ascendgym.online.
2. The short version
- We collect what’s needed to run your account, rank your lifts and power social features like clans.
- We never see or store your payment card details — Apple handles all payments.
- We don’t sell your data, and we don’t use advertising trackers in the app or on this website.
- You can delete your account and all of its data from inside the app at any time.
3. What we collect
Account information
- Email address and password (the password is stored hashed by our authentication provider; we can’t read it).
- Username, display name and, if you add one, a profile picture.
Body and training profile
- Bodyweight, height (optional), age, biological sex, fitness goal, experience and activity level, and your unit preferences.
- We use bodyweight and sex to calculate your ranks fairly — the same lift is scored relative to your body. Some of this (for example bodyweight) can be considered health-related data; we only use it to provide the features you ask for.
Workouts and progress
- Workouts, exercises, sets (weight, reps, duration, distance), rest-timer preferences, exercise notes, routines and custom exercises.
- Personal records, per-exercise ranks and rank history, muscle mastery, goals, streaks, XP and level.
- Achievements, titles and daily/weekly quest progress.
Nutrition (optional)
- Food and water logs, macro goals and, for Ascend Plus members, supplement logs.
Photos (optional)
- Progress and physique photos you choose to upload. These are stored privately and are only visible to you.
- Your profile picture is stored publicly so other users can see it next to your name.
Clans and social
- Clan membership, roles, invites, clan feed activity and clan war participation and results.
Other
- Feedback you send us from inside the app.
- Promo or redemption codes you redeem.
- Fair-play signals: to keep ranks and leaderboards honest, our servers automatically flag accounts that log activity faster than is realistically possible (for example, very large XP gains in 24 hours). A flag is reviewed by a person; it is never acted on automatically.
- Your subscription status (whether Ascend Plus is active, and when it renews or expires).
Website waitlist
- If you join the waitlist on this website: your email address, the date you joined and which page or link you signed up from.
4. What other people can see
Ascend has social features. Other Ascend users can see your username, display name, profile picture, ranks, level, active title and your clan membership and clan activity. Your body measurements, workouts, nutrition, photos and email are not shown to other users.
5. Why we use your data (and our legal basis)
| Purpose | Legal basis (GDPR) |
|---|---|
| Creating and running your account; logging workouts; calculating ranks, XP, achievements, quests and goals | Performance of our contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Using bodyweight, sex and other health-related data to personalise ranks and features | Your explicit consent (Art. 9(2)(a)), which you can withdraw by deleting the data or your account [TO CONFIRM: consent prompt in app] |
| Clans, clan wars and showing your profile to other users | Performance of our contract with you |
| Providing Ascend Plus and restoring purchases | Performance of our contract with you |
| Fair-play checks, preventing abuse and keeping the service secure | Our legitimate interests in a fair, secure service (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Account emails (sign-up confirmation, password reset) | Performance of our contract with you |
| Waitlist launch emails | Your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — you can unsubscribe at any time |
| Reading and replying to feedback and support requests | Our legitimate interests in improving Ascend and helping you |
6. Payments and subscriptions
Ascend Plus is sold through Apple’s App Store. Apple processes your payment; we never see or store your card or payment details. We use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions: it receives a pseudonymous account ID and your App Store purchase receipts so it can tell the app whether Ascend Plus is active. Apple’s handling of your data is covered by Apple’s own privacy policy.
7. Who processes data for us
We use a small number of trusted service providers (“processors”) who only act on our instructions:
| Provider | What for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, authentication and file storage for the app and the waitlist | Zurich, Switzerland (EU adequacy decision) |
| Resend | Sending account emails such as sign-up confirmation and password reset | United States [TO CONFIRM transfer safeguard: EU-US Data Privacy Framework / SCCs] |
| RevenueCat | Subscription status for Ascend Plus | United States [TO CONFIRM transfer safeguard] |
| Apple | App distribution, payments and refunds | Per Apple’s privacy policy |
| Vercel | Hosting this website | Global edge network [TO CONFIRM transfer safeguard] |
Where data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, we rely on an adequacy decision, the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
8. How long we keep it
- Account data: for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your profile, workouts, ranks, photos and all related records are permanently deleted.
- Waitlist emails: until launch and for up to 12 months after, or until you ask us to remove you — whichever is sooner.
- Feedback and support emails: for as long as needed to deal with your request, then deleted within 24 months.
- Backups: deleted data may persist in encrypted backups for a short period before being overwritten. [TO CONFIRM backup retention period]
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you and get a copy of it;
- correct data that’s wrong (most of it you can edit directly in the app);
- delete your data — use Settings → Delete Account in the app, or email us;
- restrict or object to certain processing, and withdraw consent at any time;
- data portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
To exercise any of these, email support@ascendgym.online. We’ll respond within one month. You can also complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie) or your local supervisory authority.
10. Age
Ascend is for people aged 16 and over. We don’t knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If you believe a child under 16 has an account, contact us and we’ll delete it.
11. Cookies and tracking
This website doesn’t use advertising or analytics cookies, and its fonts are served from our own domain. The app stores your sign-in session and an in-progress workout on your device so you don’t lose a session if the app closes. We don’t use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.
12. Security
Data is encrypted in transit, access to each person’s data is restricted by row-level security in our database, and private photos are only reachable by their owner. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.
13. Changes
If we make material changes to this policy we’ll update the date above and, where appropriate, let you know in the app.
